vmware 6.5 and Ubuntu 9.10

I couldn't find a good place to report this, so I'm writing it here for the search engines. I'm running vmware workstation 6.5 on ubuntu 9.10 (a combination that is unsupported by vmware, I believe). A week ago, vmware workstation began hanging when reverting/shutting down VMs giving me a black screen for a while. I used strace and discovered it blocked while trying to open a pcsclite related file/socket. I uninstalled everything smartcard related (overkill) and my problem went away. Note that I had just installed the smartcard related utilities the previous week for a development project. Just though you should know.
