Cataract surgery

I developed a cataract in my left eye and had surgery today. The surgery went well and I'm at home now.

Walked 8.2 miles today!

For the first time, I walked from my house to my work in downtown Bellevue. It is 4.1 miles each way and took an hour and a quarter to walk each leg, for a total of 2.5 hours of walking.

My legs are now quite sore and I have a bit of a sunburn.

Warrior Dash 2018

I took part in the Warrior Dash 2018 in Carnation, WA this past Saturday with a group of people from Samena. We had a huge amount of fun and got very dirty. There aren't a lot of photos of us because its not really something you can carry a camera on. These images were from a friend's husband.

I'm the guy in the white compression shirt (it was old), black gloves, and Speedo jammers. It took me 15 minutes of showering to get the mud to stop.

1000 miles!

I finally made it to a 1000 miles swimming at Samena. I've really cut back on how much I'm swimming since starting karate, then joining a morning workout class, and then also going regularly to the gym.

950th mile on my birthday

I swam my 950th mile on my birthday the other day. I had hopes to reach 1000 miles by this point, but I've been busy doing lots of other stuff. I've been doing strength training in the evening, along with a mile swim, and karate, and doing more intensive calisthenic exercises in the morning. Altogether, I'm average 1.5 to 2 hours of exercise a day.

I grew up on the coast but never learned to surf, until today while on vacation. My younger two kids also learned with me.

900 miles!

I reached my 900th mile swimming laps at Samena last night.

I haven't been swimming quite as much this year as I've been doing other activity -- the Muscles in Minutes class at Samena on M/W/F mornings (started December 2016) and I'm attending the Brown Belt class on Tuesdays (as of June 2017). I also got a kayak and bike this summer.

Monday:  45 minutes of Muscles In Minutes
Tuesday: 2.5 hours karate, 40ish minutes of swimming
Wednesday: 45 minutes of Muscles in Minutes, 1 hour karate
Thursday: 1.5 hours karate
Friday: 45 minutes of Muscles In Minutes, 1.5 hours karate
Sunday: 1 hour 20ish minutes  of swimming

I sometimes swim on Fridays or Saturdays and also hit the gym. About 11.5 hours a week of physical activity.

I'm also taking a drawing class with my wife.
